Around a decade ago a report was filed on the development of robotic surgery and its application as a heart surgery option and the evaluation of New York City robotic surgery with a robotically assisted coronary artery bypass revealed that all nineteen patients in the study survived the year and were complication free by the end of the study. The increase in popularity of this type of surgery is due to the less invasive nature that that it can provide under the right circumstances. Cardiac surgery is, by its very nature, an invasive process and robotic surgery can be employed in the hopes of reducing that stress.
